City of Quito: Ecuador’s capital Quito was founded on the ruins of an Incan city and with many of the historic buildings still standing.  It was no surprise that UNESCO made the Historic City of Quito one the first World Heritage Sites in 1978.  The city’s central square sits at an altitude of 2,800m, making it the second highest capital in the world (behind La Paz, Bolivia).  A walking tour around the historic city will take your breathe away, literally!
