I thought I was safe with this one! Spain is renowned for many things: Bullfighting, Sangria, Tapas, flamenco dancing, paella. On La Rambla, you are GUARANTEED to find any of the above and sometimes you’ll find an amalgamation of at least 2 (I saw a cartoon bull holding a plate of paella).
After perusing the many shelves of tat on offer, I chanced upon this little beauty. Obviously, I had seen the outfit before, but I’d never seen a Spanish souvenir depicting a urinating little cherub. This was no Manneken Pis! And I knew this was a match made in heaven when the salesman cut the price from an eye-watering 6.95 down to a more manageable 5 euros.
Imagine my disappointment, upon checking Wikipedia whilst writing this blog up, I found out that the figurine is called a Caganer and it generally depicts the action of defecating or urinating, generally in Catalan and generally in a nativity scene!
Ah well…….
