The £5 Souvenir Challenge – Natalie Wood in Dubai

Burj Khalifa Base

Inspired by Doug Lansky’s Crap Souvenir Website I decided challenge friends on their holidays to buy a gift, for no more than five English pounds, that may reflect the country visited or have a story attached to the buying experience. The Golden Burj Khalifa

The first lucky contestant was friend Natalie Wood, who recently visited Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.  She kindly returned with this three inch tall shiny Burj Khalifa.   The Burj Khalifa is a skyscraper and is currently the tallest structure in the world, at 829.84 m (2,723 ft).

Natalie explained the purchase, “Well I thought it was quite representative of Dubai being the tallest building in the world, as they try to be the best at everything with the biggest and best hotels, shopping malls, restaurants offering first class service wherever you go. One of my remaining impressions was so many skyscrapers everywhere unlike London where they are in more concentrated areas, but the whole length and width of Dubai, just huge, massive buildings all over the place…and of course they love their gold“.

On visiting the Burj Khalifa, Natalie said “The elevator experience (going up 124 floors in 60 seconds) was probably better than the views of various construction sites and large wide open spaces of sand in-between all the skyscrapers!!

A big thank you Natalie for taking part and obtaining the ‘Gold Burj’ that now towers above the paperclips on the departureboard desk.
