19 volcanoes loom over the Central American nation of Nicaragua, making it one of the most active geothermal places in the Americas. At the top of many of these volcanoes, the noxious gasses and fumes would kill many humans within minutes. But at the Mombacho volcano, the smoky craters have since closed up, paving the way for verdant cloud forests. Though thick plant life has moved in, the shape of the craters are unmistakable from the various ‘miradores’ or lookout points available to visitors.
Thanks John, another fantastic photo. I didn’t realise there were so many volcanoes in Nicaragua!
