Crossing the Sahara desert through Mauritania takes more than a hardy set of wheels. Having the knowledge and insight to spot landmarks unnoticeable to the casual visitor takes a trained eye. Our guide in Mauritania was Habba, a kind, patient and knowledgeable guide who represented his country with pride.
This photo shows Habba partaking in one of his regular tea rituals. We made many impromptu stops to dig cars out of deep sand, so Habba always took the opportunity to boil up a brew!
