Picture The World Project, Iceland

Iceland-PTWP

Photo by Ben Chompers of myx100year.blogspot.com

This is a photo from Tjordinn (literally “the pond” in Icelandic). In this photo you can see the city hall, the parliament of Iceland, the culture house, the national cathedral, and the first church “for the people” which also was the first church in Iceland to allow same-sex marriage, in addition in the far background you can see the bright snow capped peak of Esja, a mountain across the bay from Reykjavik. These buildings are part of the main hub of Reykjavik and to me is the quintessential view that makes me think of home. This was taken on a winter day, with only around 3 hours of daylight, and the pond had been frozen over the day before, but has a thin layer of melted water on the top providing the clear reflection.

Thanks Ben.  A truly stunning photo of Iceland.  I must nudge Iceland up the list of places I need to visit!
