Picture The World Project, Canary Islands

Tufia Beach, Gran Canaria

Photo by Matthew Hirtes Going Local in Gran Canaria Author

Challenge anybody who claims to know anything about Gran Canaria to count the number of beaches they can name and watch them use just the one hand. Usual suspects include the likes of Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles in the southern resorts and Canteras in the island’s capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. There are in fact 82 beaches on the island. Tufia on the relatively tourist-free east coast is very much a local beach for local people. For more insider tips on the island, check out my book:  Going Local in Gran Canaria.

I would like to nominate Suzy Guese (SuzyGuese.com) and Kate Bailward (katebailward.com).

Many thanks to Matthew for this photo representing the Canary Islands.  Be sure to check out his book.  Looking forward to seeing Kate and Suzy’s photos.
